When it comes to buying hair straighteners, getting the right pair that does the job at the right price can be tough.
The range of hair straighteners in terms of price is diverse, from the highly acclaimed GHD Eclipse costing over £250 right down to the well received Ace Vivi Professional quality hair straighteners at less than £20
An obvious feature is missing from them all.
One thing has always perplexed me though when it comes to hair straighteners, is that not many straighteners use steam. We use steam irons to get clothes flat and crisp but up until now we don’t regularly use steam to straighten our hair. Ok a few companies have tried it, but one of the market leaders GHD haven’t added a steam function to their products yet.
It all seems a little odd, because adding steam will mean you can reduce the plate temperature meaning you won’t make your hair crisp. The steam hydrates your hair whilst keeping the temperature hot enough to straighten.
I look at it this way, cook with a hot plate you get sizzle, cook with steam you simply get cooked without the sizzle. Steam hair straighteners will give you all the look without the sizzle?
Steam straighteners give you the look without the cook!
One company that seems to have grasped this basic understanding of physics is L’Oreal. The L’Oreal Steampod allows you to straighten or curl your hair at much lower temperatures than conventional straighteners meaning less damage to your hair. You simply get all the look without any of the cook! This new look at straightening hair makes a really refreshing change, with L’Oreal introducing quite a few great features with this product.
- The steam comes from an external reservoir, meaning you can steam your hair straight for longer.
- High power steam at 3.5g per min, means you get a lot over a small surface area.
- A combination of steam and pro-keratin technology are combined for silky, stronger and smoother hair.
- An integrated comb ensures each strand of hair is straightened evenly.
- Choose from 5 different temperature settings, select the lowest one that matches your hair type.
Received 4.5 stars in hundreds of reviews
Across the web, users are regularly giving the Steampod 4.5 – 5 stars, for me that speaks volumes as to how effective these straighteners are.
The Steampod is great all hair types including problematic hair such as frizzy, thick, coarse and long. As the Steampod uses steam to straighten your hair you won’t get that awful frizz in the rain anything like as much, because the hair is well hydrated already. If you find your hair doesn’t stay straight for long using normal hot irons, then these could be just what you’re looking for. The combined benefit of steam and less heat means your hair will stay straight, shiny and silky smooth for a days rather than hours. All this adds up to less straightening and even healthier hair.
If you don’t want straight, then the Steampod can do curls too, with the integrated brush, lower heat, combined with steam you can create the perfect soft curls that last ages.
For me it all sounds amazingly obvious. If steam is great for pressing clothes, cleaning, cooking and beauty therapies why not in hair straighteners? It’s the perfect combination.
